Too often, we think of spiritual gifts as something abstract—or reserved for adults. But the truth is, every teen in your class or quorum has already been blessed with spiritual gifts from God. Your job? Help them discover what those gifts are and empower them to use them in everyday life.

From Talk to Testimony You’ve heard the classic 1 Corinthians 12 talk dozens of times. But have your youth ever paused and actually asked: What spiritual gifts do I have? This isn’t about listing talents. This is about discerning divine DNA.

Make It an Activity, Not a Lecture Here’s a 6-minute activity you can use as part of a youth night: Create a list of 10–12 spiritual gifts (discernment, faith, teaching, compassion, etc.) and write each one on an index card. Have each youth draw two cards at random. Then go around the room and have each youth talk about someone in the group who might have that gift—and why. It becomes a moment of bonding and insight.

Tie It Back to the Covenant Path Understanding spiritual gifts isn’t just affirming—it’s directional. Once a teen sees that they’ve been gifted to lead, or to comfort, or to teach, they begin to understand their place in God’s kingdom. It strengthens their desire to stay on the covenant path—not because they’re supposed to, but because they belong.

Support the Long-Term Vision This is what your Mutual activity ideas should be building toward: personal testimony, spiritual strength, and confidence in divine identity. And it’s why we’ve designed the Forged in Faith youth discipleship program to align with your long-term goals. Inside our program, we offer dozens of ready-to-use lessons that deepen youth understanding of spiritual gifts—and teach them how to use those gifts in church, school, and home.
